Mary Kate and Rachel here. If you don't know us, we don't know how you got here, but you can check out the links to the right of this text. If you do, you probably know that we've been trying to get together a YouTube channel to make things during the indefinite hiatus between The Lizzie Bennet Diaries and whatever series we end up doing next. And we've been working on it! We have lots of ideas of things we want to do! Some are really cool! Some are probably pretty terrible! But ultimately, what it's coming down to is this:
We want to make videos.
We don't have any money to make videos.
If you'd like to give us some money, we will make you videos.
Those are the basics. For some of you, that's probably all you need to hear to decide if you want to click that little donate button on the right or not. But if you've got more questions, well, let's try to anticipate what they might be and answer them!
(And if you have additional questions, you can email us.)
What will the money go towards?
Even if we manage to borrow any equipment we need, trade favors to get people to work for free, shoot in locations without asking and just run away if anyone sees us, and work with essentially no crew, it's still almost impossible not to run into expenses. At the very least, we have to buy lunch for anyone helping us out. If we have two actors and two crew members besides us, at best, that's $50 for meals. If we need any props or costumes, that increases the cost as well. The cheapest we could get away with for any (scripted) video is probably $100, and while we'd love to be able to front that money ourselves and just make lots of videos anyway, we aren't able to do that right now.
What if you get lots of money?
We would really love to be able to put money towards getting some of our own equipment. If we were able to buy a camera (besides our iPhones) and some very basic sound equipment (...besides our iPhones), we would be able to make videos for you more often, instead of worrying about when we could borrow things from our very generous friends (hint hint, friends), and making sure we knew how to use it (if we're borrowing different types of equipment every time). We would also be able to make our basic, crewless, budgetless videos (vlogs and such) be of nicer quality for you instead of dark and grainy.
Why not a Kickstarter?
We ARE planning on doing a Kickstarter for a small series later this year, so we didn't want to overwhelm you with lots of campaigning. We also know it's "Kickstarter season" and there are already lots of cool projects you guys have been giving money to. If you want to wait until we have a specific project and you can receive perks and all that fantastic Kickstarter-related stuff before giving us any money, great! That's awesome! We're hoping that this is a completely non-pressure way for the people who have been asking us when we're going to make more videos to help us make that happen sooner rather than later.
It's going to take some time for us to get everything together to do another series. But we really want to make cool things in the meantime, so you guys have things to watch, so we can show you all (and any future Kickstarter backers) that we can do the stuff that isn't just writing for someone else's show and acting for someone else's show, and just because we really like making stuff. Plus, this way we can hopefully start creating and putting out videos a lot sooner than if we were waiting for an entire campaign to finish.
What kind of videos ARE you planning on making, then?
We have a couple videos already in mind that we hope to make as soon as we can, and we've already shot a few silly things that we're waiting to release until we know we're going to be able to provide content on a somewhat steady schedule.
And, yes. It may take a little longer, but we do plan on getting you guys more scenes from Hunger Games the Musical.
So...So if that sounds good, click on the "Donate" button to the right! Even $5 will help because if you give $5, somebody else probably will, too.
And if that doesn't sound good, it's okay. There's a place for you, too.
Thanks for reading all that, guys! And we hope to update you on new and exciting things very soon!
MK and Rachel
